On July 12, 2010 the Club became the registered owner of 82 acres of land purchased from Island Timberlands (IT). This land had been leased for many years from IT and its predecessors to enable the Club to operate its ranges and trails.
The amalgamation of the Club’s existing land with the recent acquisition has created a new property of approximately 100 acres. This purchase has both secured the Club’s land base and provided opportunities for the expansion of its current operations and the development of other conservation-oriented projects.
The land will be logged by IT over the next three years and replanted. While logging is expected to cause some disruptions to Club activities, these will be kept to a minimum by the use of ongoing consultations between IT and the Club. While the loss of trees will be traumatic the cleared area so produced will enable the Club to develop and implement a land-use plan to maximize the benefits provided by the additional space created.
At the January 16 2011 AGM
President Dave Parenteau and Vice President Geoff Robins
unveiled a Dedication plaque, pictured above, and a
Commemorative Plaque listing all the Members and Businesses that contributed money for the purchase of the land.
The AGM was followed by a special luncheon with a pair of Commemorative cakes prepared by Quality Foods.
